‘Lean in’ author Sheryl Sandberg applauds Paul Ryan for family time demands
Sheryl Sandberg, the Facebook executive who wrote the “Lean In” bestseller, is praising Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) for making time with his family a condition on accepting the Speakership.
{mosads}”The Lean In Award of the day goes to Paul Ryan, for saying he worries how becoming House Speaker would affect his children, ‘who are in the formative, foundational years of their lives’ — and that he won’t do the job unless he can still make them a top priority,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Ryan has set a series of conditions on his running for Speaker, including that he not constantly be on the road fundraising for his party. Ryan’s wife and three children live in Janesville, Wis.
Some conservatives have criticized those demands, but Ryan on Wednesday was unapologetic.
“Hey look, I’m here four days a week as it is,” Ryan told The Hill this week. “I’m not going to spend the other three days a week running around America.”
Sandberg’s influential book focuses on women and changing their assumptions about leadership and the workplace. A key part of the argument focuses on the responsibility of men to share parenting responsibilities.
