Tuesday: Defense bill, cyber
The Senate will take a procedural vote on an annual defense bill on Tuesday despite a looming veto threat from the White House.
Senators will convene at noon, with a procedural vote on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) expected at 1 p.m. The House-Senate conference committee rolled out the proposal last week after months of trying to merge the separate House and Senate versions of the bill.
{mosads}Democrats haven’t said if they will try to filibuster the bill, but the Senate’s version of the bill passed earlier this year by a 71-25 margin.
If the legislation overcomes Tuesday’s procedural hurdle, it will pave the way for a final vote and for the bill to head to President Obama’s desk this week.
Meanwhile, the House will meet at noon for morning hour and 2 p.m. for legislative business. House lawmakers will take votes at 6:30 p.m. on nearly a dozen pieces of legislation, including a bill to require the Department of Homeland Security to build a cyber strategy.
