Thursday: VA, Iran sanctions

The Senate will take a procedural vote on proceeding to a bill that funds military housing and veterans’ benefits. 
 
The Senate is expected to vote at 1:45 p.m. on the procedural vote, with top Democrats urging their colleagues on Wednesday to block the Senate from taking up the bill. 
 
{mosads}Senate Democratic leadership has pledged to block any spending bill that doesn’t roll back congressionally mandated spending caps for both defense and non-defense funding. 
 
Meanwhile, House lawmakers will take up legislation that would block the Obama administration from lifting economic sanctions against Iran until it pays billions in court-ordered fines related to terrorism. 
 
The Obama administration has pledged to veto the bill if it gets to the president’s desk. 
 
Votes in the House are expected between 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
