Poll: Trump leads in Wisconsin

Donald Trump is the number one GOP presidential pick in a poll of Wisconsin Republican voters.

The real-estate mogul garners 20 percent support, according to a poll live-tweeted by the University of Marquette Law School on Wednesday.

{mosads}He’s followed by Ben Carson at 16 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) at 14 percent, Carly Fiorina at 11 percent, former Florida governor Jeb Bush at 7 percent and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) at 5 percent.

Trump is up 11 points since the poll’s last iteration in August. Other big risers are Rubio, who is up 7 points, and Fiorina, who is up 4 points.

The poll attributes the businessman’s success to his favorability among former supporters of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), who dropped out of the race last week.

Trump claims 22 percent of those who say they would have supported Walker’s presidential bid, the most among any candidate. Rubio garners 14 percent of ex-Walker backers, followed by Carson with 11 percent, and Cruz with 10 percent.

Twenty-eight percent of respondents say they would have supported Walker’s campaign had he stayed in the race.

Although Trump is the first choice among a plurality of Republican voters in the state, only 5 percent of respondents choose the real estate-mogul as their second option.

Rubio is the favorite runner-up, with 17 percent of voters choosing him second, followed by Fiorina with 15 percent and Carson with 12 percent.

The poll surveyed 321 Republicans in the state through landline and cell phone calls from Sept. 24 – 28. The margin of error is 6.5 percent.
