Bush: Trump’s comments on women ‘deeply troubling’
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Thursday that fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s continued comments on women are “deeply troubling.”
“Look, I don’t get it. I don’t see how over the long haul that you can insult your way to the nomination or the president — certainly not the presidency — and not the nomination either,” Bush said during an appearance on CNN’s “The Lead.”
{mosads}Bush was responding to the Republican front-runner’s comments for a magazine story published Wednesday that included remarks about GOP rival Carly Fiorina’s physical appearance.
“This disparaging of women is deeply troubling. It just doesn’t make any sense to me,” Bush continued during his appearance on CNN.
“Carly Fiorina has made a good contribution already and will continue to make a contribution in this nomination process. She should be respected as a talented person and a viable candidate,” he added.
Trump attempted to clarify early Thursday that he was merely referring to Fiorina’s “persona” when he was quoted by Rolling Stone commenting on her face.
“Look at that face!” the magazine quoted him as saying. “Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?”
The real estate tycoon’s comments also drew flak from Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who said during a speech Thursday, “There is one particular candidate who just seems to delight in insulting women every chance he gets.”
“I think he believes that he can insult his way to the presidency, and I don’t think history is a very good guide for that,” Bush said of Trump on CNN.
Trump is currently dominating the GOP presidential field with 32 percent support in a CNN/ORC International poll out Thursday. Bush came in third, at 9 percent.
