Trump: ‘I cherish women’

GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on Sunday fired back at intense criticism over comments he made about Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, saying he said “nothing wrong.”

“I cherish women,” Trump told host Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I said nothing wrong what whatsoever,” he said. “Do you think I would make a stupid statement like that? You almost have to be sick to put that together.”

“I am going to do things for women that no other candidate can do,” Trump added.

The outspoken billionaire charged on Sunday that his opponents for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination are using his feud with Kelly as a way of discrediting him.

“They want to be politically correct, they want to get points,” Trump said. “They want to improve their fortunes.”

“It is a very common statement,” he added of his language attacking Kelly last week. “I didn’t even finish the statement. She was very angry because I bested her with a question.”

Trump sparked outrage with a public spat during the GOP presidential debate last week.

Kelly questioned him over past remarks concerning women that some find demeaning.

The New York business mogul responded by saying “there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever” during an interview on Aug. 7.

Critics have since pounced on Trump’s remarks as crude and demeaning toward Kelly.
