Report: Trump gets most social media attention

Data released by Facebook, Twitter and Google show that Donald Trump dominated social media conversations during the first GOP presidential debate, according to a Friday report.

Reuters reports the outspoken millionaire received the most Facebook and Twitter mentions among candidates in Thursday evening’s contest in Cleveland, as well as the most Google searches.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson came in a distant second with 12 percent of the Twitter mentions. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was seventh.

Both Facebook and Twitter reported a skirmish between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) as the most discussed moment of Thursday’s debate. The two got into a shouting match over the balance between civil liberties and successfully preventing terrorism.

“You fundamentally misunderstand the Bill of Rights,” Paul told Christie during the standoff, citing the governor’s support of increasing government intelligence capabilities.

“When you’re sitting in a subcommittee just blowing hot air about this, you can say things like this,” Christie retorted.

Trump, meanwhile, strung up a highlight reel of many memorable moments on his own.

The real estate kingpin sparred with Fox News moderator Megyn Kelly over past remarks he has made about women. Trump also refused to rule out a third-party run for the White House, instantly drawing audience boos at the debate’s onset.
