Graham super-PAC raises nearly $3M

The super-PAC supporting Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) presidential bid has raised $2.9 million since March, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

The Security Is Strength super-PAC, which takes its name from a Ronald Reagan quote, raised the money from 30 different donors.

Robert McNair, the chairman of the Houston Texans football team, gave Graham $500,000, even with two other Texans — former Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Ted Cruz — in the race.

{mosads}Ronald Perelman, the billionaire investor that’s a member of Graham’s national finance team, also gave a half-million. Access Industries, a holding company that owns Warner Music Group and others, also donated that same sum.

Of the total, $200,000 came from a super-PAC that supported Graham’s Senate bid, West Main Street Value PAC Inc.

General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt gave $25,000 to the group, as did Boston philanthropist Theodore Cutler.

Graham appeared at a fundraiser for the group in March, which was co-chaired by GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson. Adelson doesn’t appear to have given to the super-PAC directly, but another co-chair, former American Enterprise Institute board member Roger Hertog, donated $100,000 a week after the event.

The haul puts Graham’s super-PAC toward the bottom of the pecking order as he tries to fight his way into the first Republican debate.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush overwhelmed the field when his supporting super-PAC announced a $100 million haul, and a handful of groups supporting his rivals have announced totals of more than $10 million.
