House Dems outraise GOP in second quarter

The campaign arm for House Democrats outraised its Republican counterpart in the second quarter of 2015, according to figures first obtained by The Hill.

{mosads}The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) will report raising $16.7 million in the second quarter, compared to $16.1 million for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).

A DCCC aide credited House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) role in the party’s fundraising efforts. In addition, the aide noted that Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.), the DCCC’s chairman, has had considerable success in raising the number of dues-paying members, with 72 percent of the caucus now contributing.

Still, the NRCC ended the quarter with more money in the bank, having $15.4 million in cash-on-hand, compared to $14.4 million for the DCCC. Neither committee has any debt.

The DCCC outraised the NRCC in the first two months of the quarter, but the GOP outpaced their Democratic counterparts in June, $7.3 million to $6.9 million.

An aide for the NRCC said the committee had its best off-year fundraising total since 2005, raising $1.6 million more in the first six months of the year compared to the last cycle, and ending with $4.1 million more in cash-on-hand.

Democrats have a huge hill to climb in taking back control of the House, and most political observers believe there’s little chance of it happening in 2016, even with a more Democratic electorate expected to turn out in a presidential year.

Democrats would need to gain 30 seats to win back the majority.
