Boehner ‘deeply saddened’ by ‘cowardly’ shooting

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he is “deeply saddened” by Thursday’s shooting at two Tennessee military facilities that killed four Marines.

“Today’s cowardly attack is a reminder that our men and women in uniform are under constant threat, no matter where they serve,” Boehner said in a statement Thursday afternoon, after news broke of the shooting rampage.

{mosads}“I’m deeply saddened by this loss of life, and on behalf of the whole House, offer condolences to the families who lost loved ones today,” he added. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them, the people of Tennessee, and all of our troops.”

The comments came after officials revealed that a man reportedly identified as 24-year-old Kuwaiti immigrant Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez killed four Marines during a shooting at two separate military facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn., before being killed.

Three others were also wounded in the attack, including a police officer who was shot in the ankle and taken to a nearby hospital.

Officials have yet to publicly identify a motive for the shooter, but are investigating it as an act of domestic terrorism, they said Thursday.
