Senate GOP tops Dems in April fundraising

The Republican Senate campaign arm outraised its Democratic counterpart for the first time this year in April.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised $4.2 million last month, compared to $3.8 million for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

That’s the best nonelection year April fundraising haul on record for the NRSC.

{mosads}The GOP campaign arm paid off a significant chunk of debt, lowering its outstanding liabilities from $6 million at the end of March to $3.5 million at the end of April. The group’s cash on hand remained steady at about $5 million.

The DSCC ended the month with $7.6 million in cash on hand, up from $7.1 million last month. The group lowered its outstanding debt from $13.7 million last month to $12.6 million now.

The DSCC has outraised the NRSC by about $2.6 million this year to date.

Republicans will be defending 24 Senate seats heading into 2016, compared with 10 for Democrats.

The GOP currently has an eight-seat advantage in the upper chamber, meaning Democrats will need to pick up five seats to regain a majority.
