Financial Services to take another look at Ex-Im
The full House Financial Services Committee will have a hearing on the Export-Import Bank on June 3, just weeks before its charter expires June 30, a committee spokesperson told The Hill.
{mosads}The hearing marks the panel’s third on the bank this year. The spokesperson didn’t say who was invited to the hearing but said that would be available in the coming weeks.
Republicans are divided about whether to reauthorize the bank. Hensarling and Tea Partyers argue that it is a form of “corporate welfare.”
Other Republicans and Democrats say it helps sustain U.S. jobs while financing American businesses in emerging markets where the private sector won’t act.
Hensarling hasn’t said whether he’ll move a bill through his Committee, which has jurisdiction on the issue. If he doesn’t, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) would have to buck Hensarling in moving a bill to the floor.
