Jeb: Clinton and I would have backed Iraq invasion
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) said both he and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would have ordered the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
“I would have [authorized the invasion], and so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everyone,” Bush told Fox News host Megyn Kelly in an interview that will air Monday night on “The Kelly File.”
{mosads}“And so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got,” he added.
Bush also said he had no disagreement with his brother, former President George W. Bush, over the controversial military campaign.
He disputed during the interview that he had debated ensuring national security for Iraqis with his sibling.
“By the way, guess who thinks those mistakes took place as well?” Bush asked. “George W. Bush.”
“Yes, I mean, so just for the news flash to the world, if they’re trying to find places where there’s big spaces between me and my brother, this might not be one of those,” he added.
Bush’s remarks come as he weighs a potential 2016 presidential bid.
During his talk with Kelly, he charged that he would not change some of his more moderate beliefs in an effort to win over conservative voters should he run.
“Do you want people to just bend with the wind, to mirror people’s sentiment, whoever is in front of you?” Bush asked.
“ ’Oh yes, I used to be for that, but now I’m for this,’ ” he quipped. “Is that the way we want to elect presidents?”
Bush additionally addressed his views on immigration reform. The former Florida governor has long supported an amnesty pathway for illegal immigrants.
“I mean, there’s got to be a point where we fix this system so that legal immigration is easier than illegal immigration and show some respect for people,” he said.
To “a kid that might have been here 10 years, that might be a valedictorian of their high school, to say, ‘No, no, no, you’re not allowed to go to college,’ I just think there’s a point which we’re over the line,” Bush added.
