White House promises earthquake aid to Nepal

The United States is sending funds and experts to Nepal to help the nation recover from a hugely damaging earthquake.

The Obama administration is sending a team of disaster response experts to Nepal, as well as an initial $1 million in relief aid, according to a spokesperson for the National Security Council.

{mosads}The Asian nation suffered a 7.8 magnitude earthquake Saturday, inflicting with officials reporting over 1,000 people killed, as well as additional deaths reported in India, Bangladesh and Tibet.

The NSC spokesperson said the U.S. stands prepared to assist the region further as it needs it, and expressed “deep condolences for the lives lost.

“The earthquake and subsequent landslides caused widespread damage and loss of life in Nepal, India and Bangladesh,” the spokesperson said.

Lawmakers took to social media to offer their condolences to the Nepali people after reports about the earthquake began to emerge.

Other nations have offered aid to the country.
