Obama reads his Mean Tweets

President Obama turned his focus to Twitter on Thursday night, participating in Mean Tweets, a running segment of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

“Is there any way we could fly Obama to some golf course halfway around the world and just leave him there?” Obama read for the camera, though he added he thought it was “a great idea.”

{mosads}This is the latest instance of the president engaging with new media. He jokingly used a selfie stick in a recent video produced by BuzzFeed, and has also sat for interviews with YouTube and Vox this year.

“I have to say though, those weren’t that mean,” he told Kimmel. “I’ve got to tell you, you should see what the Senate says about me all the time.”

The president, whose first secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, caught criticism this week for her use of a private email account, added that he does not normally tweet or text himself.

“Generally speaking, I’ve got some other stuff to do,” Obama joked, noting that he sometimes uses Twitter for special events.

The White House occasionally sends out tweets signed “bo” that are seen as statements from the president.

Obama says he has a secure, government-issued BlackBerry for email.

“I can’t use phones with recorders in them. so a lot of the newfangled stuff for security reasons I don’t get,” he said.
