Clinton likely to address email scandal
Hillary Clinton will likely hold a press conference over the next few days to address the controversy over her use of private email accounts while secretary of State, according to reports.
Bloomberg cited a “source close to Clinton” who said she will speak to reporters to push back at criticism over her use of private accounts for official business.
{mosads}CNN and Politico have also reported on Clinton’s expected plans.
Clinton has faced criticism from Republicans and even some Democrats after The New York Times last week revealed her use of private email, which was reportedly hosted on a private server at her home in New York state.
Her staff sent the State Department 55,000 pages of official emails to ensure they were part of the record. However, many have criticized the lack of third-party oversight and questioned whether all documents have been turned over.
Clinton’s team has been silent, outside of one statement distributed to the Times and other outlets. In a late-night tweet last week, Clinton said she wanted her emails made public and had asked the State Department to release them.
She hasn’t commented on the controversy during two public appearances following the report, including at a Clinton Foundation event on women’s rights and opportunities.
The presumed Democratic front-runner for the White House in 2016, Clinton will undoubtedly face questions about the emails on the campaign trail.
Her silence has been lampooned by critics, and also by Saturday Night Live. The comedy show opened with a skit depicting her as obsessed with being president and responding to the scandal.
