Webb: What the GOP, Dems must do now

There is a great deal of frustration with the ineffective and feckless leadership in Washington, D.C. Putting partisanship aside does not mean compromising values. It is about moving the ball. Both sides need to do what needs to be done for America.

What Republicans should concede, at this time

Republicans are going to have to accept some not-so-good deals. The more conservative base needs to think forward, not about instant gratification. Enough screaming about the establishment, about libertarians or about some other label. They and others are all part of the Republican Party.

{mosads}The GOP needs to shut the hell up on the social issues for now. The Constitution protects individual liberties, which does include things some people do not like. It’s the Constitution of the United States, not each person’s Constitution. That which is reserved for the states, keep at the state level.

On immigration, lawful presence for low-risk illegal aliens, not citizenship, is likely the best the GOP can do. You will not get enforcement from Democrats the way we wish they would. There will have to be a second, third, probably several bites at the apple in the future on this issue. A Texas judge’s order on President Obama’s executive action is a good thing for all sides. It has stopped for now the president’s power grab and de facto making of immigration law. So ignore the lobbyists, make the best and fair assessment possible, and fix the damn work visa program.

What Obama and Democrats should concede, at this time

First, Obama will concede nothing he’s not overridden on by the courts or congressional votes. You can’t work with this president because he is unwilling to govern as needed. I saw this and warned America in 2009 about Obama’s ideology and incompetence combined. My warnings have come true, to the dismay of the country and the world. To the Democrats, a simple question: Do you care more about your agenda than the country? You may fool some, but you won’t fool the entire country.

On the Keystone XL oil pipeline, Congress must override the president’s veto — with the help of Democrats. It will go a long way in the form of public good will.

Democrats won’t get amnesty, and most Americans don’t want to give amnesty. So give it up. A Texas judge just gave America a breather and a fighting chance for immigration reform sanity. The 5th Circuit court of appeals is the next step. Enforcement of border security is a national security issue as well as an economic issue. Stop the lies about deportation numbers. Illegals turned back at the border do not count.

Obama can call it anything he wants, but the spreading radical Muslim cancer has metastasized in the Middle East and Africa. It will become more pervasive in Europe, especially in Turkey, then more active in the United States. Do not ignore the role of Saudi Arabia and other state sponsors, and stop pretending Iran is not behind much of the training and spread of Muslim radicalism. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and become the nuclear hegemon in the Middle East and a threat to the world. Its missiles can reach Israel now; Europe and America are the country’s next threat goal.

Radical Muslims are fighting total war with every effective tactic that supports their caliphate strategy. Democrats should get their collective heads out of the sand. The world can galvanize all it wants with words, but the only thing that will eradicate this evil death cult is weapons and men with the will to use them. We don’t have that in our leadership in America; rather, we have squabbling petulant politicians.

Screw the United Nations and the wishy-washy minions of mindless idiots around the world. Inevitably, we end up saving their butts anyway. Man up like we did in World War II. Whine all you want, but the world is a better place when America stands up to and actively fights evil. We have to be in this for the long haul, because the radical Muslims are in it for the global caliphate. It’s in our best national interest to have a more stable world.

I’m speaking to the American people no matter what political party. I now return you to your partisan corners. I’m not so selfish as to not think of America over my own personal wishes.
