Kennedy won’t be Dem campaign chief

Freshman Rep. Joeseph Kennedy (D-Mass.) isn’t interested in running the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

{mosads}The Boston Globe reports that Kennedy had been approached by Democratic leadership to see if he would be open to the position but declined. Grandson of the late Bobby Kennedy, he’s the only member of the famous political family in Congress.

“Congressman Kennedy is not pursuing the chairmanship and intends to spend his second term focused on his constituents in the 4th District and his legislative work in Washington,” Kennedy spokeswoman Emily Kaufman tells the Globe. His father, Joseph P. Kennedy II, also served in Congress.

The Hill reported Wednesday that while Kennedy’s name had been mentioned, he was unlikely to wind up in the role.

The list of potential names still includes Reps. Jim Himes (Conn.), Donna Edwards (Md.), Jared Polis (Colo.) and Lois Frankel (Fla.), all of whom have held previous leadership roles with the DCCC, as well as fellow Rep. Joaquín Castro (Texas), a fast-rising freshman.
