Club for Growth endorses 6 GOP senators for reelection

The fiscally conservative Club for Growth is endorsing six freshman Republican senators, as it gears up for 2016, looking to defend some of its closest allies in Congress.

{mosads}The organization is backing its former president, Sen. Pat Toomey (Pa.), as well as Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Rand Paul (Ky.), two potential presidential contenders. The group also is endorsing Sens. Ron Johnson (Wis.), Mike Lee (Utah) and Tim Scott (S.C.). Toomey and Johnson are top Democratic targets heading into the 2016 elections.

“The pro-growth class of 2010 has done excellent work in the United States Senate. Our members want to make sure they stay there for another six years,” Club for Growth President Chris Chocola said in a statement. “The Club for Growth PAC is ready to stand by these members of Congress — all of whom have a consistent record of voting for pro-growth policies.”

The Club had a big year in 2010, with a number of its preferred Senate candidates winning their elections. The 2012 and 2014 cycles were more mixed for the group, which failed to knock off Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) in a hotly contested primary and didn’t defeat most of its targeted House incumbents, though it did help candidates win a number of open-seat House races.
