GOP senators pile on Reid after election

Republican senators chided Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) leadership style as midterm election results showed a big win for the GOP in taking control of the upper chamber.

On Tuesday night, Republicans flipped more than the six seats needed to become the majority party in the Senate.

{mosads}Republicans said the election results repudiated President Obama and Reid’s policies. Some GOP lawmakers have even called Reid’s control of the Senate agenda dictatorial, saying he blocks amendment votes and usurps regular order.

“Tonight the American people dramatically repudiated the policies of President Obama, Senator Reid, and Leader Pelosi,” Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said. “The last six years of the Obama-Reid majority have been a government of the elites for the elites.”

Starting next year, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will take control of the Senate and become the majority leader.

“To my great frustration, Harry Reid effectively shut down the Senate during the last four years, stifling debate and blocking proposals that did not fit his narrow political agenda,” Sen. Dan Coats (R-Ind.) said. “This change in leadership provides a fresh start and an opportunity to move forward much-needed measures to strengthen our economy and spur job creation.”
