Dave Brat wins in Virginia

Republican college professor Dave Brat, who unseated former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) in a primary earlier this year, won election to the House Tuesday evening.

Brat is an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. He won 60 percent of the vote over fellow Randolph-Macon professor Jack Trammell’s (D) 37 percent with 47.5 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}In June, Brat defeated Cantor, who was then considered the next in line to be Speaker, in one of the most stunning upsets in modern political history. Brat won despite having no political experience and a 20-to-1 spending disadvantage.
