Rand Paul torn on Ebola quarantine policy

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Sunday that he was torn over the current debate on quarantining healthcare workers who have treated Ebola.

{mosads}On the one hand, Paul said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that “the libertarian in me is horrified” about quarantining people without due process.

“I think that we have to be very careful of civil liberties,” Paul said.

But Paul also said he understood the public’s concern about Ebola. “There is a reasonable public concern that you really shouldn’t be gong to the discotheque,” Paul said.

The Kentucky Republican’s comments came after Kaci Hickox, a nurse who treated Ebola in West Africa, defied a state-imposed quarantine in Maine and faced one in New Jersey. A Maine judge tossed the quarantine on Friday.

“It’s a tough question,” Paul said.
