Suspicious cyber activity detected on White House computer network

Suspicious activity was detected on the White House’s computer network and measures have been taken to address the issue, a White House official confirmed Tuesday.

{mosads}The actions taken to address the possible breach limited access to some services administered through the network.

“Our computers and systems have not been damaged, though some elements of the unclassified network have been affected,” the official said. “The temporary outages and loss of connectivity for our users is solely the result of measures we have taken to defend our networks.”

No details were released on when the activity occurred.

The White House declined to comment on a Washington Post report that hackers working for the Russian government were behind the breach.

The paper also reported that after the suspected activity was discovered on the network, certain staff members were asked to change their passwords and access to the Intranet was shut off.

The FBI, Secret Service and National Security Agency are involved in the investigation.
