Grimes: I had ‘very strong words’ for Reid

Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democratic candidate for Sente in Kentucky, said she confronted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) over his statements on coal during a recent fundraiser.

Grimes said at a televised debate with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that she had “very strong words” with Reid at a fundraiser in Washington, DC.

{mosads}”I did have very strong words for Sen. Reid regarding an energy-plus philosophy I believe he is misguided on as well as the president,” she said. “Coal keeps the lights on here in Kentucky.”

McConnell accused Grimes of talking tough on the Democratic Party’s coal policies in public but not pressing Democratic leaders on the issue behind the scenes.

“This is Harry Reid that she will vote for to make majority leader of the Senate if she goes there,” he said. “He’s the guy who said coal makes you sick.”

Grimes tried to turn the tables on McConnell by calling him a cozy ally of Charles and David Koch, the billionaire industrialists who have poured tens of millions of dollars into the 2014 midterm election.

“You and your henchmen the Koch brothers, you can mislead Kentuckians with $50 million in negative, nasty ads but I do speak for myself.”
