The U.S. and its allies on Tuesday reportedly hit Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants with airstrikes at the besieged Syria-Turkey border town of Kobani, to help repel them from the Kurdish community.
{mosads}Kobani has been under attack by ISIS for nearly three weeks.
Fierce fighting in Kobani was reported on Monday, when ISIS pushed into three eastern neighborhoods and hoisted at least two black flags, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The U.S. and coalition nations have conducted more than 95 airstrikes in Syria, but only about nine near Kobani, according to U.S. Central Command statistics released before the new strikes.
The UK-based anti-government group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Tuesday’s airstrikes, and said that ISIS forces pulled back after overnight clashes.
