Bill Clinton rallies behind Grimes in new ad
Kentucky Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes is banking on a new ad featuring “The Comeback Kid” to help her gain ground in her race against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Former President Bill Clinton praises Grimes as a compromiser and someone who puts job creation first in the ad, Clinton’s first of this election cycle. It pairs video of Clinton campaigning for Grimes with generic footage of her meeting with voters.
{mosads}“What’s being a senator about anyway?” Clinton asks Grimes’s supporters. “One candidate believes it’s about getting new jobs, getting good jobs, giving middle class people the chance to give their people a decent life.”
Grimes finds herself down in recent polling and hopes a spot with the popular former president can give her a bump. A CNN/ORC poll from June found that two thirds of U.S. adults have a favorable opinion of Clinton. Another poll found that 37 percent of adults would be more likely to vote for a candidate that Clinton endorsed.
The former president’s friendship with Grimes’s father is well known and stems back from Clinton’s days as governor of Arkansas. He traveled to Kentucky in August to stump for the Senate hopeful.
