Club for Growth hits McAllister on fiscal issues in new ad

The conservative Club for Growth is launching a campaign to paint Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.) as a liberal by highlighting his voting record on fiscal issues.

The group previewed a 30-second ad, a six-figure buy, that will air in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District starting Tuesday.

The ad begins by noting McAllister’s “personal issues,” which became public earlier this year, when a video surfaced showing the married congressman kissing a former campaign staffer.

{mosads}“What’s less known is just how liberal he’s been in Washington,” the ad continues. “McAllister voted for a budget that raised taxes and increased spending.”

“McAllister says we’re past repealing ObamaCare, and he supports expanding it in Louisiana.”

The congressman voted for the budget agreement struck last December by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.).

Several other groups, including Heritage Action and FreedomWorks, urged lawmakers to vote against the resolution because they said it would raise limits on discretionary spending and would increase taxes.

A request for comment from McAllister’s reelection campaign was not immediately returned.

The Club for Growth political action committee has endorsed businessman Zach Dasher for the seat. The state’s Tea Party has also endorsed him. 

Dasher is one of six Republicans challenging McAllister, who was first elected to Congress in a special election in November 2013. Jamie Mayo is the Democrat running for the seat. 

All candidates, regardless of party, will be placed on the November ballot due to Louisiana’s jungle primary system.
