Ethics committee investigating Rep. Broun

Retiring Rep. Paul Broun, who placed a disappointing fifth in Georgia’s Senate GOP primary in May, is being investigated for possible ethics violations.

Without getting into details, the House Ethics Committee said Monday night it has decided to extend its inquiry into Broun, who has represented the Peach State’s 10th District since 2007.

{mosads}The case was referred to the panel by the Office of Congressional Ethics on July 31, but had not been mentioned before Monday.

Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Conaway (R-Texas) and ranking member Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.) said in a statement that neither disclosure of the probe, nor the fact that it was extended, “indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee.”

The bipartisan panel will decide how to proceed with the case by Oct 29.

A Broun spokeswoman did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
