Floods, shutdown grab spotlight in Colo.
Devastating floods, the government shutdown and ObamaCare took center stage at the first debate between Colorado’s senate candidates.
{mosads}Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) late Saturday criticized Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) for politicizing floods that wreaked havoc on the state last year.
Udall criticized Gardner for supporting last year’s shutdown, saying that Gardner “hurt the people of Colorado.”
“You hurt the recovery [from the floods],” Udall said of Gardner’s support for the shutdown, according to The Associated Press. “How could you shut down the government?”
“I can’t believe you’re politicizing a tragedy,” Gardner said, according to the AP.
Polls have Udall holding an 8-point lead over Gardner heading into the November midterm election.
Gardner also looked to link Udall to President Obama and his controversial healthcare policy.
“When you promise people, ‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,’ when did you realize that was a lie?” Gardner charged, according to Fox Denver.
Udall said that “a government takeover of healthcare doesn’t exist,” according to Fox Denver.
