Mark Wahlberg in talks to star in ‘Deepwater Horizon’
Actor Mark Wahlberg is said to be in negations to star in “Deepwater Horizon,” an upcoming drama based on the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Deadline reported the news on Tuesday that Wahlberg would play the second-in-command on the oil rig, which caught fire and exploded in 2010, killing 11 people.
{mosads}The explosion on BP’s Deepwater Horizon rig resulted in the worst oil spill since the Exxon Valdez. The movie will cover the 48 hours leading up to the spill, and those who were on the rig during the incident.
Director J.C. Chandor is expected to frame the film as a survivor story, similar to Wahlberg’s recent “Lone Survivor,” Deadline reports. The film is based on a New York Times piece that chronicled the disaster in detail.
“Deepwater Horizon” is set to start production by summer 2015.
