Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said he would prefer a Democratic candidate like Hillary Clinton to run for president.

“I think her favorables are way too low for someone who is supposed to be inevitable,” he told Real Clear Politics in an interview Monday, joking that the RNC is “ready for Hillary” — an allusion to the super-PAC urging Clinton to make a bid.

{mosads}Clinton’s favorable rating has dropped about 10 points since the 2012 election and now stands around 50 percent. Priebus also cited some flubs Clinton made during her book tour and her ability to unite the GOP in opposition.

“I think that she has exhibited an uncanny ability to make mistakes politically, and she completely unifies the Republican Party,” he said. “And all I’m telling you is politically, that is not a bad place. I would actually prefer it.”

He said the trajectory of her poll numbers makes it seem like “she is going to be at low 40s by the time we get to next year,” he said. “Then the Democrats are going to be looking around and saying, ‘OK, well now what are we going to do.'”

He speculated, however, that Clinton would ultimately not run.

“Perhaps, when you get to that place in life — I mean she has lived in the White House for eight years. She has been at the highest levels, right, of our government. She has seen it and been there and done that. Does she really want to go through all of this?”
