Egypt dissolves Muslim Brotherhood party

An Egyptian court on Saturday dissolved the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood and ordered its assets liquidated, the latest move against the country’s oldest Islamist movement.

The ruling against the Freedom and Justice Party will prevent the banned Islamist group from formally participating in parliamentary elections expected later this year.

{mosads}The government declared the Brotherhood a terrorist group late last year, accusing it of orchestrating a wave of violence after the military overthrew President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.

The party, founded in 2011 by the 86-year-old Brotherhood, went on to dominate subsequent legislative elections, according to The Associated Press.
