Second American with Ebola back in the US

Nancy Writebol, the second American to contract Ebola in Liberia, has arrived in the U.S. to be treated at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

{mosads}Writebol, a missionary, was flown out of Liberia late Monday night in a specially outfitted aircraft that briefly stopped over in Bangor, Maine, before arriving at Dobbins Air Force Base, Ga., according to Atlanta’s WSB-TV.

Writebol will be transported to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where Dr. Kent Brantly, an American physician, is also being treated for Ebola after contracting the virus in Liberia.

According to health officials, Brantly and Writebol have both shown signs of improvement, after they were given ZMapp, an experimental drug being developed by Mapp Biopharmaceutical with funding from the U.S. government.

According to the World Health Organization, almost 900 people in West Africa have already died from the deadly disease, which spreads through bodily fluids.

The recent Ebola outbreak in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea is already the worst in history and has global health officials scrambling to contain the pandemic.
