Reid: End ‘senseless’ tax break for outsourcing jobs

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called on Republicans to come up with a finite list of amendments to a bill that would end tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas.

“We need a list of amendments and a path to getting the bill done,” Reid said on the Senate floor Tuesday. “If there is going to be no list, then I have no choice.”

{mosads}On Monday, Reid filed cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 2569, the Bring Jobs Home Act, which would give companies incentives to bringing jobs back to the United States, including a tax credit of up to 20 percent of the costs to relocate.

Reid said the bill is part of Democrats’ “Fair Shot” campaign ahead of the November elections.

Sen. John Walsh (D-Mont.) is the lead sponsor of the bill and also one of the most vulnerable Democrats up for reelection.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Democrats know they won’t get five Republicans to join them in supporting the bill in the first procedural vote on Wednesday.

“It’s a bill that’s designed for campaign rhetoric and failure — not to create jobs here in the U.S.,” McConnell said Tuesday. “Everyone knows that the Democrats aren’t being serious here.”
