Christie backs Hobby Lobby ruling
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) declared his support Thursday for the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby ruling, weeks after he declined to weigh in on the controversial case against ObamaCare.
The potential 2016 presidential contender offered his opinion during a meet-and-greet in Marion, Iowa, when asked by an attendee.
{mosads}”Do I support the Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case? I do,” he said, according to a video released by Democratic super-PAC American Bridge, which caught the exchange.
Last month, the Supreme Court ruled that some employers could decline to offer birth control coverage in health plans based on religious objections.
Thursday is the first time the 2016 presidential hopeful has given his view on the decision. A day after the controversial ruling, the 2016 presidential hopeful told CNBC, “Who knows?” when asked about his opinion.
“The point is: Why should I give an opinion as to whether they were right or wrong? At the end of the day, they did what they did,” Christie said during the interview. “That’s now the law of the land, unless people in the legislative branch try to change it.”
Christie is in Iowa campaigning for incumbent Gov. Terry Branstad (R).
