Inhofe announces second ‘Pilot’s Bill of Rights’

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) announced Monday that he would introduce a second Pilot’s Bill of Rights.

“The first Pilot’s Bill of Rights was a victory for the aviation community and made possible by the support of pilots and industry leaders across the nation,” said Inhofe. “Since its implementation, I have heard from the aviation community that more improvements still need to be made to cut red tape.”

{mosads}In 2012, S. 1335, the Pilot’s Bill of Rights, was signed into law. Inhofe said that, although Federal Aviation Administration reviews and certification processes are now more transparent and fair, problems remain for the aviation community.

“The goal of Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 is to continue addressing unfair practices and regulations toward the aviation industry,” Inhofe said. “I am also requesting feedback from the aviation community on how this legislation can best meet their needs and ensure a safe and innovative industry that is free of heavy-handed bureaucracy.”

Inhofe said his second bill would limit Customs and Border Patrol stops and searches of small general aviation aircraft. It also requires the FAA to notify pilots if they are being investigated.

Inhofe is a formal pilot and a member of the Senate General Aviation Caucus.
