GOP senators send birthday wishes to Bush

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other Republicans came to the Senate floor Thursday to mark former President George H.W. Bush’s 90th birthday.

“Today, our nation’s 41st President, George H.W. Bush, turns 90,” McConnell said. “Beyond wishing him a very happy birthday, I want to acknowledge President Bush’s extraordinary record of service.”

{mosads}Bush served in World War II, directed the Centeral Intelligence Agency (CIA), served as Vice President under President Regan before become the 41st president of the United States.

Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) joined McConnell. 

“I am amazed he has been able to pack so many accomplishments in just 90 short years,” Collins said.

Bush was celebrating his birthday by parachuting out of a plane.

On Wednesday evening, the Senate passed S.Res. 471 to honor Bush on his birthday. The resolution also honored his wife, Barbara Bush, who turned 88 this week.
