Sunday show preview: All about Shinseki
The resignation of embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki will be the biggest focus of Sunday’s news programs.
{mosads}Shinseki took the fall for the widening controversy over veterans’ health care on Friday, after more than 100 members of Congress called for his removal.
Here’s the lineup:
ABC’s “This Week” features National security adviser Susan Rice, in her first appearance on the show since 2012; Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas; Frances Beinecke, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council; Hal Quinn, president and CEO of the National Mining Association.
NBC’s “Meet the Press” — Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America’s founder and CEO Paul Rieckhoff will give insight on the latest developments in the ongoing VA scandal. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will discuss security threats and whether Edward Snowden is a traitor or patriot. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) will be a featured guest as well.
CBS’ “Face the Nation” will discuss the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki and what’s next for the embattled department with Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.), along with Robert Wallace, who heads the Veterans of Foreign Wars. McCain called this week for Shinseki to step down and Sanders chairs the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.
CNN’s “State of the Union” will talk with former Senator Jim Webb (D-Va.), a combat veteran and author, who will share his perspective on Eric Shinseki’s high-profile exit from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
National Security Advisor Susan Rice will join Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) to discuss President Obama’s foreign policy blueprint ahead of his trip to Europe next week.
“Fox News Sunday” will focus on the VA also. House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller (R-Fla.) will discuss the national scandal with Dr. Samuel Foote, a former clinic director for the VA in Phoenix who was the first to shed light on allegations concerning veterans’ health care.
Chris Wallace will also speak with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) about Hillary Clinton’s possible presidential candidacy and forthcoming book “Hard Choices.”
