Rubio: Climate laws would ‘destroy’ economy

Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), a Republican presidential hopeful, said in an interview broadcast Sunday that he does not believe human activity is causing “these dramatic changes to our climate the way these scientists are portraying it.”

“I don’t agree with the notion … that somehow, there are actions that we can take today that would actually have an impact on our climate,” Rubio said on ABC’s “This Week.”  “Our climate is always changing.”

“I don’t know of any era in world history where the climate has been stable. Climate is always evolving and natural disasters have always existed,” he said.

{mosads}“And I do not believe that the laws that they propose we pass will do anything about it, except it will destroy our economy.” 

The White House on Tuesday released of a report that concludes human-generated climate change is having dramatic effects on every part of the nation.

The administrated touted the 841-page National Climate Assessment as the most comprehensive look yet at global warming in the U.S. The report said climate change is raising temperatures, contributing to storms, and making water more scarce and wildfires more common.

The election-year report appeals directly to the Democratic Party’s liberal base, which must come out in full force this fall if the party is to hold on to a majority in the Senate.
