EMILY’s List candidate wins Dem special
North Carolina state Rep. Alma Adams (D) has won the primary to replace former Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) over a crowded field.
{mosads}The Associated Press has called the race for Adams, who had 43 percent of the vote with 80 percent of precincts reporting against a field of six other candidates.
Most observers expected the race to result in a runoff. But Adams, the only woman in the race, got a big boost from EMILY’s List, which helped her with fundraising and sent mailers on her behalf to help her win the 40 percent necessary to win the race outright.
She’s all but guaranteed a seat in Congress in the heavily Democratic, African-American majority district.
