Cruz: Impeach Holder over IRS scandal

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says Attorney General Eric Holder should be impeached because the Justice Department has failed to fully investigate the IRS scandal.

“Among other things, Congress should impeach Eric Holder because Eric Holder is defying Congress and defying rule of law,” Cruz said on conservative host Sean Hannity’s radio show on Thursday. 

The freshman Tea Party senator said he was “very pleased” the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted to hold former IRS official Lois Lerner in contempt earlier in the day because of her refusal to answer lawmakers’ questions.

{mosads}On Wednesday, the House Ways and Means Committee also voted to refer Lerner to the Justice Department due to her connection to the scandal.

Cruz argued the Justice Department hasn’t done much to investigate the agency’s efforts to target conservative advocacy groups in the 2010 and 2012 elections because of political reasons. 

Holder is “the most partisan attorney general this country has ever had,” Cruz said.

The Republican noted that President Obama promised to work with Congress to get to the bottom of the scandal.

“In the eight months that have transpired, not a single person has been indicted. In the eight months that have transpired, most of the victims of wrongful targeting haven’t even been interviewed,” Cruz said.

This is not the first time Cruz has strongly criticized Holder. In May 2013, Cruz said on Fox News that Holder should resign amid allegations that the Justice Department had subpoenaed Associated Press reporters’ and editors’ phone records.
