Under Contract

• The U.S. Forest Service split a $2 million contract between three contractors to provide “archeological services” in Southern New Mexico. The work will take place in the Gila and Lincoln National forests, where the contractors will look for and document “cultural resource sites,” and then “make a recommendation regarding its eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places,” among other duties. DMG Four Corners Research, Envirosystems Management and Paleowest will be working on the project. Work is expected take place until Aug. 2, when the contracts will be reevaluated.

• The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Interagency Fire Center is spending $453,750 for the use of a type III helicopter, the smallest used by the agency that is able to carry 100 gallons of water and four to eight passengers. It will be used by the U.S. Park Service, but may be used by other agencies as detailed in any “existing interagency and cooperative agreements with other federal and state agencies and private landholders.” Hillsboro Aviation won the one-year contract. The cost will be reevaluated after that period.

• The Defense Department is spending an estimated $1.2 million for fresh fruits and vegetables for purchase by U.S. troops located in Nevada. The contract, won by the Las Vegas location of World Wide Produce, will last for four-and-a-half years.

• A project by the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires the genome sequencing of cattle, a process that gives researchers a comprehensive look at the entire genetic code of a subject. The project aims to identify the specific genes within a cow’s digestive tracts that are more favorable to hosting specific kinds of E. coli bacteria. Neogen Corporation won the $35,000 contract.

• The U.S. Agency for International Development awarded Bitar Muhandesoun Mustasharoun more than $4.3 million to build and rehabilitate schools in Jordan “to improve the quality and access to basic education in Jordan and provide improved and safe learning environments for Jordanian youth,” according to contract documents.
