Palin heads to Georgia to defend ally

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) is in Georgia to campaign for former Secretary of State Karen Handel’s (R) Senate campaign.

{mosads}Palin, who endorsed Handel and a number of other candidates last week, will attend an event late Thursday morning with Handel to tout her campaign.

“We are excited and honored that Governor Palin chose to make her first appearance of the 2014 cycle for Karen Handel in Georgia,” campaign manager Corry Bliss said. “The grassroots excitement since Governor Palin’s endorsement has been tremendous. Since the endorsement last week, the campaign has raised well over $100,000.”

The event comes just a day after video emerged of one of Handel’s opponents, businessman David Perdue (R), attacking her for not having a college degree.

Handel already has a radio out touting Palin’s endorsement.

Palin also endorsed Handel in her 2010 gubernatorial primary, which she lost to now-Gov. Nathan Deal (R).

Palin is also attending an event for Florida House candidate Lizbeth Benacquisto (R) on Thursday. Her support for the campaigns seems to be coming without much planning coordination — Benacquisto’s campaign just announced her event with Palin on Tuesday, while Handel announced Palin’s attendance on Thursday, shortly before the event was to take place.

Palin has a mixed track record for how much her endorsements help.
