Nigerian Ambassador Ade Adefuye: Remembering International Women’s Day

Guest Commentary

International Women’s Day is a day when the world celebrates and recognizes women for their economic, political and social achievements around the world. Supporting women is a high-yield investment, resulting in stronger economies, more vibrant civil societies, healthier communities and greater peace and stability as women continue to excel in government, education, health, business and many other sectors around the world.

We cannot forget the barriers that women had to overcome and we must celebrate what women have accomplished throughout our history. It is our duty to remember that everyone must continue to help, mentor and teach future generations of women as they embark upon life’s challenges and obstacles.

{mosads}With these thoughts in mind, please remember to say thank you to the women who have impacted your life. Saying thank you goes a long way as we pay tribute to those women who have helped pave the way for future generations of women around the world today as they embark upon life’s challenges and obstacles.

As we all say thank you, the public cannot rest on the laurels of the achievements of past generations of women. Instead we all must remember their achievements while progressing forward.

Since 1911, International Women’s Day has been celebrated around the world and much progress has been made, but everyone can still do much more and make sure that the next generation of women grow up with a fuller reach to impact their world and reach their potential.

Today we celebrate, acknowledge and honor women who are making strides, breaking glass ceilings and achieving great things and working together to inspire change.

We cannot forget the barriers that women had to overcome and we must celebrate what women have accomplished throughout history and what they will accomplish today as well as what they will accomplish in the future.

Adefuye is the Nigerian ambassador to the United States and recipient of the 2014 King Legacy Award For International Service.
