Pentagon investigates contractor for skirting Iran rules

One of the Pentagon’s biggest suppliers in Afghanistan is under investigation over allegations it broke U.S. law by moving supplies through Iran, The Wall Street Journal reports.

{mosads}The Defense Department inspector general told lawmakers it has launched an investigation into Anham FZCO, a contractor based in Dubai and McLean, Va., which was awarded an $8.1 billion contract last year to supply food and water to U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

The investigation was sparked by a Journal article that found the company used supply routes through an Iranian port, which might have violated U.S. sanctions laws against Iran.

The company said in September it was conducting an internal review of subcontractor shipments, and a lawyer for the contractor said Monday it had not been notified of the inspector general investigation.
