Senate approves funding for VA Paralympic Team

The Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would continue funding through the Department of Veterans Affairs for training the Paralympic Team.

{mosads}Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.) introduced H.R. 1402, the VA Expiring Authorities Extension Act, which extends until 2018 the yearly $2 million appropriated to the VA to pay a monthly assistance allowance to disabled veterans training or competing for the Paralympic Team.

The bill also appropriates $8 million for grants to U.S. Paralympics Inc.

Last week, the House passed the bill in a 353-0 vote. The Senate passed the measure through a unanimous consent agreement.

The legislation now heads to President Obama’s desk for his signature before becoming law.

The Senate is debating the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which funds the Pentagon. That bill is expected to pass Thursday.
