Right blasts Obama ‘selfie’ with other leaders at Mandela memorial service
Conservative commentators are blasting President Obama after the president appeared to take a “selfie” at the memorial service for South African leader Nelson Mandela on Tuesday.
{mosads}Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron were spotted leaning in to look at the cellphone of Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt. First lady Michelle Obama, seated to the president’s left, is looking elsewhere.
“Thank you Mrs. Obama for knowing how to behave at a funeral,” tweeted RedState.com’s Erick Erickson.
The photo was quickly posted to “Selfies at Funerals,” a Tumblr blog that spiked in popularity earlier this year that chronicles instances of individuals taking photos of themselves as the funerals of loved ones.
Obama wasn’t the only American leader to pose for a photo at the funeral. Former president George W. Bush, who traveled to South Africa with the Obamas, posted pictures of himself with U2 frontman Bono, as well as with former President Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
