Rand Paul: ‘Ordeal’ of public office, family treatment may nix 2016 White House run
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said the life of a national politician can be an “ordeal,” and the impact of uncivil treatment on his family could nix any 2016 presidential run.
“It really is an ordeal to be part of public life. … I also hate it when family is attacked, and they get into the news,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”
{mosads}Paul said that some weeks, “the haters and the hacks go after” him, and other weeks he has a more positive view.
The Kentucky senator said he and his family would take about a year to decide whether to follow in the footsteps of his father, Ron Paul, and run for president.
“The thought has crossed my mind … I’m not ready to make a decision yet,” he said.
The libertarian said he would focus on trying to generate jobs in Kentucky and on fighting government intrusion into privacy, including National Security Administration data mining.
