Poll: Christie leads Clinton in Pennsylvania

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) leads former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a new poll of voters in swing-state Pennsylvania.

According to the survey, conducted by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, Christie takes 48 percent support to Clinton’s 44 percent support.

He’s the only potential Republican presidential contender to outdo the former first lady, however; Clinton leads Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) with margins ranging from 4 to 12 points.

Christie’s crossover appeal helps deliver him the win against Clinton. He takes nearly a quarter, 22 percent, of Democratic voters — though she still leads with independents.

Christie also performs the best of any potential GOP contender against her with women, taking 45 percent to her 49 percent among that demographic group.

More than half of respondents disapprove of the Affordable Care Act in Pennsylvania, an outcome that tracks closely with what polling’s showing in other states nationwide as issues with the rollout continue to dog the law.

But Pennsylvania’s Democratic senator, Bob Casey, fares better than its Republican senator, Pat Toomey. While Casey is seen favorably by a majority of respondents, a plurality, 46 percent, disapprove of the job Toomey’s doing.

And the PPP poll shows him vulnerable to two potential Democratic opponents in 2016: Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who leads him by 4 points, and former Rep. Joe Sestak, who ties him at 42 percent.

The survey was conducted among 693 Pennsylvania voters from Nov. 22-25 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
