Cornyn: ‘Texans feel deceived’ on ObamaCare

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said Tuesday that President Obama’s credibility has been “shattered” by his broken promises on ObamaCare.

“Had Americans known that ObamaCare would actually raise premiums and cause millions of folks to lose their health policies, it never would have become law,” Cornyn wrote in an op-ed on Breitbart.com. “Texans feel deceived, and Americans everywhere share our frustration.”

{mosads}Cornyn pointed out that Obama repeatedly promised the public that if they liked their existing health insurance policy, they’d be able to keep it. But Cornyn said nearly 3.5 million people have already received cancellation notices. Under ObamaCare, insurance companies were required to cover some procedures that might not have been in some people’s plans, causing insurance policies to change.

“Such broken promises have shattered the president’s credibility,” Cornyn wrote. “How can Texans trust anything he says about ObamaCare, when so many of his past assurances have proven false?”

Cornyn’s comments came a few days after Obama visited Texas touting his signature legislation, the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. Cornyn has been a constant critic of the law, calling for its full repeal.

Some Democrats have recently come out in support of legislation aimed at clarifying the “grandfather clause” in the healthcare law to allow people to keep the coverage they have and like. Cornyn said that was a “good start” but called on Congress to “dismantle” ObamaCare.
